An impressive vintage, our old vines Cabernet Franc has enticing aromas of raspberry, dill, sage, autumn leaves, malt and plum. The rich palate leads with ripe raspberries and blackberries, followed by a mild earthiness and toasty vanilla. Full, round and polished with a persistent finish, try this beautifully complex wine with Moroccan duck breast or a classic Provence bouillabaisse.
Winemaker: Robert Summers
Growing conditions: The 2015 growing season was one of the warmest on record, with harvest commencing approximately 2-3 weeks ahead of schedule. Precision viticulture with careful canopy management, targeted leaf removal, shoot positioning, and controlled drip irrigation, helped supplement the development of these old vines. The record-breaking high temperatures slowed down in the fall, with cooler autumn evenings enabling a more even ripening process.
Winemaking notes: Crafted with grapes from 50 year old vines planted in 1968 in Block 3 at the top of our estate, this old vines Cabernet Franc offers fruit that is intense and complex. The fruit underwent an extended maceration of 15 days followed by full malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged in our best oak barrels for over a year, followed by bottle ageing for six months prior to release.
