Ripe raspberry & currant open the bouquet of this enticing red, with hints of dill, sage & underbrush. Enjoy a fruit forward entry of ripe berries, cherry, coffee, light smoke and an earthy minerality. The finish is lengthy with medium yet persistent tannins, and drinking exceptionally well in its youth. Compliment this robust red with cinnamon and winter-spiced duck breast or quail; excellent with classic pâtés.
Winemaker: Robert Summers
Growing conditions: The persistent heat in the spring of 2014 meant yet another accelerated growing season. However, September’s warm days and cool nights allowed for our mature Merlot vines to develop excellent flavours, complexity, and full tannins. Planted in Block 2, these vines were established in the early 1970s, making them some of the oldest in the Okanagan Valley.
Winemaking notes: Our 2014 was defined by an ideal growing season. The long hang time on the vine resulted in very ripe fruit, allowing for a true expression of the Golden Mile Bench Cabernet Franc. Aged in only our best oak, this wine had an extended maceration, followed by full malolactic fermentation. Enjoy it now or bottle age for maximum varietal expression. best Merlot wine are laid down to age up to 16 months, which bring complexity and add layers to the finished wine.
